If You're Cold...

put on a little accessory
We will be celebrating Black Friday by being closed, but the store opens again on Saturday at noon.  We have lots of things for you, the knitter/crocheter and those knitters and crocheters who are near and dear.

We are starting new classes in December.  Beginning Knitting starts on December 13th and will meet for 4 sessions, the 20th, 27th and January 3rd.  The cost is $125 for all supplies and handouts.

Joining to knit in the round
Our Project Classes for December are designed for those of you who would like to learn a special technique.  You may take all four of the classes offered for $90 or you can take them individually for $25 each.  Our first class, December 7th, is all about knitting in the round.  This is the technique you need for making hats, mittens, socks or even a sweater without seams!  Learn to use double pointed needles and circular needles, how to join your work and understand the structure of your knitting.

Jared Flood's Mittens Fall 2008
The second class, on December 14th, teaches you to make those beautiful, seemingly difficult cables.  You'll be amazed how easy it can be once you have the right tools and know how to read the pattern.

Fixing mistake with a crochet hook
Class three on December 21st, will teach you to fix mistakes.  It's empowering to be able to "read" your stitches and move beyond that daunting problem.  Learn to fix a dropped stitch, an incorrect stitch and how to read a knitting pattern and if time allows a chart.

The fourth class on December 27th is on increases and decreases.  This is the little detail that makes your knits look "hand made" rather than "home made".   It's how you add shaping to your knits like hats, mitts, socks and sweaters.

You can sign up for all 4 for just $90 or one for $25.  Stop by the shop, or email info@knit1chgo.com, or call 773.244.1646 to register.  We will need a deposit to hold your place.

Crochet 101: Beyond Basic, is scheduled for December 6th.  You know how to chain and single crochet, you've done a granny square and now you are ready to move to the next level.  1 night class 6:30 - 8:30 for $25.  Please register to hold your place.  For those of you who took the Intro class this month, please call to register so I can make sure we hold your space.

Sock Class begins again on January 10th and Beginning Knitting on January 4th.

Knit 1 will close at 3PM on Christmas Eve and we'll reopen on the 26th at noon.  And we'll close at 3PM on New Year's Eve as well, but join us for a Beat the Blahs Open House on New Years Day from 12 - 5.  Stay tuned!

Swatchapalooza

Borrowed from Vogue Knitting
Here it is: swatching for fun and profit!  Join us through Sunday, November 14th for the first ever Knit1 Swatchapalooza.

The Rules:
1. Choose from selected yarns.
2. Knit a 4"x4" swatch (there are a couple of exceptions to this)
3. You keep the rest of the skein if you buy another one of the same yarn in the same color (or more).
4. Knit 1 keeps the swatch.

The fine print:
The instructions for how to knit your swatch will be available at the store.  You will have to complete your swatch at Knit1.  You supply the needles.  We of course have all the needles available for purchase.

A couple of other notes on other topics.  We will be closing at 3PM on Saturday, November 14th and the store will be closed on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving - November 25th, Thanksgiving of course and the Friday after Thanksgiving.

New classes will be starting the first week of December.  Watch here for dates and times.

There are still a couple of spaces left in Intro to Crochet on Thursday, November 11th at 6:30PM.  $25 for instruction and supplies!
