Knit in the New Year

Instead of sitting at home making resolutions you KNOW you're not going to keep, come to Knit 1, make the same resolutions, but do it in the company of fellow knitters and crocheters while eating, laughing, stitching and shopping the sale!  Join us on New Year's Day for camaraderie, treats and a SALE!

The details:
Saturday January 1st, 2011
Noon - 4
Selected yarns from 20% to 50% off (almost everything will be on sale).  Books 10% off.  We won't be able to wind yarn that day, but you are welcome to bring it back to wind.

We are having a special class on January 17th.  Knitting Socks 2 at-a-time.  It will be during the day from 1 - 3ish.  We have a guest instructor coming in to teach the class, Liz from Sutter's Gold.  She has "unvented" this technique and is generous enough to share it with us!  Space is limited to 6 people and we already have a couple people signed up so call or email.  The cost is $25 per student and you will need a 40" circular needle.  Liz, the instructor is recommending a worsted weight yarn since it's easier and will move faster.  I'm going order some size 7s for us, so they'll be available here at the shop for you.

We have a "regular" sock class starting on January 6th and there are still a couple of spots left.  Details can be found on the side banner of this page.

We are starting a new Knit Along in the new year.  Some of you have weighed in on Ravelry.  I have suggested Watershed by Amy Swenson http://www.indigirl.com/patterns/watershed/; Bubbles by Lucy Neatby http://www.lucyneatby.com/bubbles_scarf.html; or Adaline by Heirloom Stitches http://deepsouthfibers.com/products?page=1&vendor_id=104&tag=Patterns.  This last one is written using lace weight yarn and is designed for a baby.  I have made it for myself using worsted weight yarn and it's perfect!  I made a few mods, but they are really simple.  Please vote, you can send me a note on email or on Ravelry.  I think Bubbles could be made in more gender neutral colors than it's pictured here.  Also, Paintbox http://www.lucyneatby.com/paintbox_scarf.html, another of Lucy's patterns could be a great guy scarf.  We'll start sometime in January.

Happy New Year!

Maximus Happiness

ChicKnits Maximus knit in Rasta Natural
Have you looked outside today?  Those of you in Chicago know that the weather forecast lived up to its prediction and then some.  It's swirling and white.  Hmmm.... Maximus weather!  If this is any indication of the kind of weather we're going to have this winter, I say we all need one of these.  Put on your foul weather gear and come on over and pick up a couple of skeins of Rasta or Magnum and whip yourselves up one of these cowls.  It's a quick, satisfying and oh so practical knit.

And while your here you can pick up some warm and warm-hearted gifts.  How cute is this?
Mini Stockings by Lucky Penny Hand Made
This is the perfect little stocking to stuff and we have lots of beautiful things that fit excellently inside.  We can help you find ideal and unique items that your giftee will love.

See all you spirited and brave knitters and crocheters later!

And, just a note.  We changed the January Sock Class to Thursdays and our next Crochet class, Motifs: granny squares, hexagons and other cool shapes, will be on Monday, January 17th. Both classes begin at 6:30.

Very Special Delivery in Time for the Holidays

A box arrived last week.  It had a handwritten label and a return address in France.  Inside were beautiful skeins of handspun yarn in different fibers and enchanting colors from our friend, Spin Span Spun.

There are only a few, but they were spun and chosen with care and would make the most beautiful gift for some very special knitter or crocheter on your gift list.  Above is a peek at one of her colors.

We also got a big box of books with some great new titles.  From the One-Skein Wonder author is Sock Yarn One-Skein Wonders.  There are some great patterns in this book, there's still time to knit them up before Christmas or gift this to your favorite sock knitter!

And from an inspired Barbara Walker fan is this new book.  The designs are wonderful and doable.

If you are looking for last minute gifts to knit or crochet may I suggest Small Balls and Big Balls?
Small balls are 65 yards of 100% wool, in great colors and perfect for small projects! Come see the patterns that accompany these.  Big Balls are 220 yards of 100% Alpaca.  Hubba, hubba...

And, if none of these seems to be just the right thing, we have gift certificates for Knit 1.  They can be used toward a class or merch whatever the giftee wants.
